Audra's Birthday (January 4th!)

Today is Audra's Birthday, and I wanted to celebrate her here with you all. As most of you know by now, she was Audrey's namesake, and we are going into our 13th year of being "BFF'S" (hence the eyebrow issues in some of the earlier photos in the slideshow...)

A little about our friendship. When we met, we were in Buffalo New York (although we had both started college at 2 different schools a few minutes away from each other in Ohio:)).  She was actually my T.A. at Buffalo State even though we were the same year, and the first conversation I recall having with her involved the type of pants she was considering wearing on a date that night. I think we decided on velour? Please, remember the 90's with me...at that time it was a good, solid choice. He, as I recall, turned out to be a loser. But the pants were, well, rockin'. I think they had stirrups too. Bonus.

Neither one of us were Christians, and we didn't live our lives like we should have. We were both dating abusive men, and we were searching for ourselves by going out a lot and pretending our real lives didn't exist. We were immediately soul sisters...we had no idea at that time what God had in store for us.  It is amazing to see where we are now (long story shortened here...).

The year after I was accepted to Vanderbilt University, Audra was also accepted, and moved to Nashville. We were so grateful to be in the same city again, and we sailed through Graduate School (seriously, if you ask either one of us what we remember from that time, we would probably say shopping. I have no idea how we each got our Master's Degrees, but we did look really cute doing it.)

I decided to start going to Mass at some point in the year before Audra moved here, and felt that the Lord was calling me to Him. When she moved here, she felt the same way, and began attending First Baptist Nashville (without going into too many details about our "prior lives," this was pretty much a miracle.  She invited me to join in a Bible Study with her (remember the Precious Moments Bible...yes, that was this study...).  I honestly loved it, and I loved all of the women who were a part of it. I am still close to many of them, and I remember that as the time when I began to feel really pursued by the Lord.

One night, on the way to church, I said to Audra, "I just don't understand this whole 'getting saved' thing. I mean, I've told God that I love Him and that I want relationship with Him, but I don't feel like I've gotten the sign that means I've been accepted or whatever."

She walked me through it all, and later that night (on January 17th, 2001) I sat in my car, sobbing, and I invited the Lord to be a part of my life.

She and I have walked through everything from infertility, miscarriage, horrible break-ups, devastating life circumstances, arguments, car accidents, driving mishaps (which led to us literally ending up in the wrong STATE and laughing so hard I almost peed on myself), and everything in between. We have watched each other's babies be born, and been each other's maids of honor. I have heard it said that "Friendship is the giving and taking of hurts..." and that has certainly been true for us.

When I found out that I was going to be in the hospital with the twins for a few months, Audra would come and spend the night with me while Todd was on the road. She brought me books, crossword puzzles and Christmas CD's, and  would come on her work breaks to share lunch with me.  She would rub my swollen feet and talk to the nurses for me when I didn't have the strength. She would pray with me, cry with me, laugh with me, and dream with me of the day that all of this would be over.

And then, when we found out about Audrey, she was in her car on the way to my house before I could finish telling her what was wrong. We sobbed as we sat on the couch and for the rest of the pregnancy, she was everything I could have ever asked for. She knew what I was thinking before I said it, and she let me be me. I needed her so much, and she NEVER LET GO.

She was there for the birth of Sarah Kate, and we all bawled our eyes out when she came out so tiny and precious. She was such a sweet baby....I miss those days of rocking and bouncy seats sometimes....OK, a lot of time.

During this time, Audra met Shawn, and they got married. He is AMAZING, and I couldn't have picked a better husband for her. They have a gorgeous daughter named Amelia (2), and will be expecting their next little girl in a week or so (she is as of yet unnamed, so pray for wisdom!!!) Audra's blog is listed on my sidebar, so make sure and check out pics of sweet baby Amelia. She is absolutely gorgeous, and there is no mistaking that she looks like her handsome daddy:)

Years later, she would meet her namesake Audrey Caroline. She would study her body, smooth her hair, kiss her as she cried tears of deep longing. She would stand up at Audrey's memorial and read a letter I wrote to my daughter as tears streamed down her face. She would stand at Audrey's memorial service with Shawn's arms around her as if she herself had lost a child. She conceived a baby quickly after that, and her due date is actually somewhere between the 8th and the 11th.

I'm secretly hoping the baby is born on the 7th so I will have a reason to celebrate on that day when now all I have is a reason to mourn.

I could go on and on, but basically, what I am saying is that I cannot imagine my life without your friendship and love, Audra. I am eternally grateful that God gave us to each other, and that something as simple as velour would lead to a pair of women who spend their lives falling more and more in love with our great Savior.

How could we have known, so many winters ago, what He would allow us to walk through together?

It has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

Here's to 70 more...

A+

p.s. Feel free to wish Audra a Happy Birthday in the comments!!!! She'll get a kick out of that:) And remember as you watch, we met in the 90's!!!!!! so go easy on the clothing...:)

p.p.s. I have spent about 6 hours trying to make this slideshow look right, it's much better if you click on "view in highest quality" on the right hand side of the screen on the bottom.

(remember to pause blog music...and if you're curious, the song that plays with the slideshow is "Never Let Go," also by the David Crowder Band:) )

I'm so moved because I have this friend too. Her name is Kate. She's my person :)

And we too accidentally drove to the WRONG state when trying to return from Canada. Tis true. We still laugh. We laughed then too. 3 a.m. and we're in Montana on accident. WHOOPS.

The pictures were so moving. Love David Crowder. I know you love him too. My mom is one of the directors of Sonshine Music Festival. This last summer I was SOOO tempted to walk up to him and tell him he needed to surprise you in your back yard or something. But I didn't. The star struck thing doesn't happen to me, growing up at Sonshine, but I'm in a bit of awe of David Crowder...so yeah, chickened out. Sorry :)

Apparently I've seen and maybe met you before! My hubby, Chris, has known Audra's hubby for many years through ministry and for a stint they worked together as well. I remember the first time I met Audra...Shawn brought her as a guest to our wedding! She has such a great presence about her, she stood out, and we were so excited when we heard down the road that she and Shawn were to marry! We attended their wedding as well, which was phenomenal (as you know!), and while I wasn't super close with either of these incredible people their union made me cry from joy! Awesome stuff! Anyway, I think I met you and dozens of other wedding guests that day...so "hi" again! LOL The last time I saw the Tildens was when they were expecting Amelia and we were also expecting our first child (of so far 2). Since then we've had some holiday card exchanges and online chats, but I didn't know about her bday, so after this I'll need to send her a msg to wish her well on her special day! Ok, just sharing my story of complete randomness!

That was beautiful! It made me miss my dear girlfriends who sadly live so far away. You and Audra are lucky to have each other.

Angie and anyone else reading this, I'd like to request prayers for some friends of mine. A few days before Christmas, they just gave birth to twin boys, David and Michael. Their births were a month early, but Michael and Mom were doing pretty well. Unfortunately, David had some damage to his heart that will require surgery. I'm haven't heard recent updates (they have to travel to the hospital frequently), but would you pray for the parents, the doctors, Michael and especially David. The parents suffered a miscarriage during their first pregnancy, and as I know you and most of your readers know, I'm sure this is so incredibly hard for them. Prayers of wisdom, strength and support would be most welcome.

Esp. when you know your girlfriend knows everything about you--the good, bad, and ugly---and you her and you can just love each other through anything. God Bless and thanks for sharing. Happy Birthday, Audra! I'm sure you looked smokin hot in those pants! :) I don't know how I'd get through life without my BFF and we're so lucky to have that friendship. What a great gift to have Angie's friendship and for her to honor you on her blog read by so many! Am I the only one that signed on and at first glance saw a video thinking it was going to be Angie speaking??? You know, since she said she might do that. he he....that video was priceless. Thanks for sharing.

ps. I have the same problem with imovie and the pics looking blurry. I have yet to figure it out. I ended up getting so frustrated that I started using a online site that sends you the DVD in a movie case and you design the cover. It's super cool - www.onetrumedia.com. If you'd like to see a sample of something and their un-bluriness, click here:

Your video brought me to tears. My best friend was killed by a drunk driver almost 10 years ago and I haven't connected with another woman like she and I had. She wasn't able to be my maid of honor or hold my two precious baby girls. I miss a friendship so deep, a girl needs that in her life.

Audra Happy Birthday, what a glorious day! We also celebrated my little girls 2dn birthday today. Jan. 4th is a wonderful day!

Angie, tears are streaming down my face. I feel like I did on my wedding day after listening to your speech :) All I can do is praise God for knowing what he was doing when he brought 2 messed up women into each others lives so many years ago. I never imagined that we would have shared so many of lifes triumphs and sorrows in just a few short (dozen or so) years. Imagine what is to come! Thank you for the tribute. I am honored.

Thank you to all for birthday wishes and baby prayers.

What a wonderful friend. I laughed most at the part about being in the wrong state. I picked up a friend from the Hartford airport and wasn't paying attention and ended up going north on the highway instead of south. I was thinking we should be hitting Hartford soon and then saw the "Welcome to Massachusetts" sign. My first reaction was to wonder who put the sign there...because certainly it wasn't MY mistake. I wish our friendship had lasted and grown like yours did. You are both tremendously blessed to have each other.

I have tears still running down my face and it has been at least 30 minutes since I have finished reading this post.

I'm so glad that you and Audra met and have stayed friends for so many years. You two are beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing the story of your friendship with all of us.

I have always loved and valued all of my friends although some have slipped away over the years.

However, since suddenly losing my 31 year old husband to a heart attack on August 18 and then three weeks later miscarrying our first child I have come to value and love my friends in such a different way.

I have 3 friends in particular who have helped me through the darkest and most painful time of my entire life. The friendships that I have with each of them are now so different than they were before that tragic day. Two of these friends were with me in the ER when the Dr. came in and told me the news about my husband. I will be forever grateful to them for being there with me in that hospital on the worst day of my life.

The love of my friends is what has helped me to wake up everyday and face what has happened to my life. The support of these 3 people has been more than I could have ever dreampt. My friends are helping me to see that my life is not over, just different from what I thought it was going to be.

I used to live in the same town as two of my friends but after my husband's death I moved back 'home' to my parents house. Even though we are now 5 hours apart from each other, we still all talk everyday. I miss not seeing them everyday, but at least hearing their voice on the phone helps me.

Friends are such a great blessing to have in our lives. I'm so greatful that you have Audra as your friend and she has been there to help you through so much.

I'm grateful for my friends in this way as well.

Thank you for sharing all the pictures with us.

Happy Birthday Audra!!

I have a best friend like that. We've known each other since 2nd & 3rd grade and been BFFs for the last 10 years. She's more like a sister to me than anything else. When I was hospitalized for a possible heart attack, she was packing before she got off the phone with my hubby. And when her 16 year old had a heart attack caused by Lupus, I was on the next flight out of town. It's a beautiful thing. And now she lives just a short hour and a half drive! ;)

Happy Birthday to your dear, wonderful friend, Audra!

It is almost like the Lord has to taken all of the love your readers have for you, and used Audra to bestow it on you. It is clear the Lord's hand is on your friendship, and I am so glad you have someone in your life that is able to be there for you in such a special way. I am sure there are many readers that feel close to you, although we have never met, but still feel a love and concern for you. Audra certainly fills a very important role in your life!

In terms of the mac, I am assuming you compressed it into a Quick Time file for web streaming. I think this has to be done for youtube.
